C - a powerhouse of pure performance
features
This historic five-floor city centre building has been home to our main venue since 2000. C has a 203-seat thrust space, two end-on black box theatres seating 169 and 109, a permanent 160-seat proscenium arch theatre in the basement and extensive exhibition space

location
C is on Chambers Street, parallel to the Royal Mile, between George IV Bridge and the South Bridge, minutes from the Fringe Office, opposite Old College and the National Museums of Scotland. C's ground floor entrance leads directly into the main box office foyer and the bar. Each theatre is located on its own floor with a spacious lobby. There is lift access to all floors.

food + drink
Our lively venue bar serves a full range of drinks, meals and snacks from 9am through until the sun rises the next morning, with night-time cabaret, comedy, bands, dancing, DJs and jazz.

 

C soco - megavenue at Edinburgh's Old Town Gap Site

features
Launched in 2007, C soco spans seven storeys from South Bridge to Cowgate, and features performance and installation spaces of all shapes and sizes, indoor and outdoor. The standard format spaces include three black box studios, two 'empty room' flexible spaces, a cabaret format comedy room, indoor 'found' spaces and outdoor performance areas.

C soco is right next to C on Chambers Street – there is even a connecting door. the venue's location in Edinburgh's Old Town Gap Site gives it a true Fringe feel, and it has additional entrances on Hastie's Close and Cowgate. All outside areas have level access.

C soco has great outdoor bars including deck areas and a barbecue, and an indoor performers' bar.

 
C too - our popular original offshoot

features
In 1996 we re-opened one of the very first Festival venues, St Columba's by the Castle, as C too. The thrust format 155-seat main house is especially popular for children's shows and musicals. The 80-seat church space above is ideal for music, storytelling and workshops.

Just off the top of the Royal Mile, C too can be approached from both Johnston Terrace and Victoria Terrace, offering easy access from the Lawnmarket, Grassmarket, George IV Bridge, and from C and C aquila. The Victoria Terrace entrance leads to the walled garden, box office, terrace café and theatre. Lift access is available to garden level from street level.

The terrace café and bar in the venue's garden serves light meals, snacks and drinks.

 

C aquila - original Royal Mile Festival venue
features
In 2010, we added another of the original Festival venues: the Roman Eagle Lodge. The main stage is an 90-seat end-on theatre with wood-panelled auditorium, raked seating, and a black box raised stage. The flexible studio space offers theatre or cabaret format with bar.

C aquila is on Johnston Terrace and the Royal Mile, opposite the International Festival box office and hub, close to C too. The venue is equipped with a stair lift.

 

C site specific - thinking outside the black box
We are open to receiving applications from site-specific shows, either with or without found venues. We have programmed site-specific work into found spaces within our existing venues, from storerooms to corridors to cupboards, while our off-site programme has included events in venues as diverse as Craigmillar Castle, Greyfriars Kirkyard and the closes of the Old Town.
