C - a powerhouse of pure performance

features
This historic five-floor city centre building has been home to our main venue since 2000. C's four theatre spaces include a 203-seat thrust space, two end-on black box theatres seating 109 and 144, and a permanent 160-seat proscenium arch red and gold auditorium in the basement. There is a platform stage in the bar and extensive exhibition space on each floor.

C is on Chambers Street, parallel to the Royal Mile, between George IV Bridge and the South Bridge, minutes from the Fringe Office, opposite Old College and the National Museums of Scotland. C's ground floor entrance leads directly into the main box office foyer and the bar. Each theatre is located on its own floor with a spacious lobby. There is lift access to all floors.

food + drink
Our lively venue bar serves a full range of drinks, meals and snacks from 9am through until the sun rises the next morning, with night-time cabaret, comedy, bands, dancing, DJs and jazz.

 

C soco - our newest megavenue

Spanning seven storeys from South Bridge to Cowgate and filling Edinburgh's Old Town Gap Site with creative work, the venue features performance and installation spaces of all shapes and sizes, indoor and outdoor, traditional and site-specific.

C SoCo is right next to C on Chambers Street – there is even a connecting door – and also has entrances on Hastie's Close and Cowgate. Only some parts of the building have level access.

This brand new megavenue has great outdoor and indoor cafés and bars.

C too - our popular original offshoot

features
In 1996 we re-opened one of the very first Festival venues, St Columba's by the Castle, as C too. The well-known atmospheric thrust format main theatre is especially popular for children’s shows and musicals, seats 155, and includes a musicians' gallery. The church space is ideal for music, storytelling and workshops.

Just off the top of the Royal Mile, C too can be approached from both Johnston Terrace and Victoria Terrace, offering easy access from the Lawnmarket, Grassmarket, George IV Bridge, and from C and C cubed. The Victoria Terrace entrance leads to the walled garden, box office, terrace café and theatre. Lift access is available to garden level from street level.

food + drink
The terrace café and bar is open all day until late, serving light meals, snacks and drinks.

C cubed - a versatile venue in three dimensions

features
In 2002 we developed a new flexible black box studio space in the Celtic Lodge, one of the original Fringe venues in a 16th-century building on the Royal Mile. The main space at C cubed offers a choice of thrust, traverse and in-the-round layouts, seating up to 80. In 2006 we added the exclusive temple space seating up to 58 in end-on format on pews, ideal for stand-up, solo shows, two and three-handers, and featuring a short film programme.

C cubed is in Brodie's Close, just off the Lawnmarket (Royal Mile) and Victoria Terrace, giving a quick and easy walking route to C and C too. Access to performance spaces is by stairs only.

food + drink
The venue bar is open till late. The Deacon's Cafe in Brodie's Close serves traditional food.

C central – sassy studio theatres, chic cabaret bar

features
Launched in 2003, C central features a purpose built 100-seat cabaret bar ideal for comedy, cabaret, bands and burlesque and three popular black box studio theatres.

location
C central is situated in the Carlton Hotel on the North Bridge, just off the High Street. The venue its own entrance next to the hotel. There is lift access (three steps, staff will assist).

food + drink
The cabaret space has its own bar which stays open late after performances finish.
